Happy Valentine's Day in heaven Dad. 💗 Mom and I met for breakfast in Columbus today and we talked about "the goodole days." Treasure your people while you have them! 💘 The pic below was Valentine's Day 2023.
Two years ago (2024) we spent Valentine's Day in Houston in the medical center for appointments with Dad's PD specialists. It was a long day made longer since we had to ditch our usual Houston travel routine and hitch a ride in with Kammy. (Just before Dad's appointment someone hit my truck in town and it was waiting to go into the repair shop).Â
Thankfully Kammy is the kind of friend who will absolutely help you when you need it so into Houston went we three!
Dad had all kinds of things to say about "Ashes To-Go" in the medical center...
Kammy dropped us off at Methodist, ran some errands during our appointments and picked us up pretty quickly when we were done. (We are waiting in the pick-up line in the pic below)
Afterwards we met up with another friend at Kat'z in Montrose, one of Dad's favorite restaurants (which BTW is was always extremely kind and accommodating to his needs). Dad went all out and had fried pickles, almost an entire large Reuben sandwich and an ice cream dessert.
We hit up some vintage spots on Washington and then jumped on I-10 and headed back to Weimar. Hindsight is truly 20/20. This was Dad's last "independent" doctor's appointment with me (prior to the ER and his final hospitalization) and looking back on this - it was absolutely perfect that we were with Kammy and had a great meal with her on Valentine's Day.Â
Two days later Dad was crowned "King Valentine" at Parkview. Look at that smile.Â
By the afternoon of Easter Sunday 2024 he was gone. It still doesn't seem real to me. There is so much I want to say here and can't seem to yet... what I can manage to say is that I'm so glad I spent so much time with him. He needed me and quite frankly I needed him also. I miss him every day and I wish I could get him a Dairy Queen ice cream and take him on a drive just one more time. Happy Valentine's Day in heaven Dad - we miss you.Â
